The Mardi Gras
season is approaching. The Carnival season as it is rightly called, is known
for its colorful parties, parades and tasty food. The celebrations are the
perfect time to relax and enjoy. However, a number of you must be losing their
mind, going over the perfect Mardi Gras Costumes and ideas on throwing the best
Mardi Gras parties. To help you with this, I have compiled a sort of checklist
covering everything from Mardi Gras Outfits and costumes to party decorations.
I have also included the links of products which I have personally used, in a
bid to make the whole process easier.
Walking the streets in outfits from the evergreen court jester to a stately King, the importance of the right costume can never be ignored. So here’s a couple for ideas for the men folk on finding the perfect Mardi Gras costume.
The court Jester, as a prominent figure of medieval times deserves a special place at any Mardi Gras party. I found this great and affordable Jester costume on an online site. It includes a double knit poly shirt with skull trim, black and white checkered pants, black waist sash, black and white checkered headpiece, and a skull mask. The best part is that it is portrays a rather malevolent jester instead of the common funny type, so you can use it as a Mardi Gras Halloween costume as well.
While historically Jesters have been men, today’s times call for universal equality and this applies to costumes as well! My wife was very pleased when she bought a sexy, red jester costume on the net and I for one had no complaints. So this is the one that I am recommending. Featuring two-tone leggings, a corset, glove, collar and mask, this outfit brings ‘fierce’ to a new level.
Queen Costume:
To all those with families, I definitely understand your need to make your children, part of the celebrations. Luckily for you there are options for buying Mardi Gras costumes for children.
If mom & dad are going to dress up as jesters, then it’s only fair that the children dress up similarly otherwise they may feel left out. A really cute jester costume that my niece wore, when going for her first Mardi Gras parade featured a black and purple jester tunic that came with a matching hat. I doubt you would have any complaints with this costume.
A simple feathered mask with lots of colors is probably your best bet as it can go with just about any costume. Featuring hues of purple, green and yellow, this mask is beautiful and economical.
Considering how much I have been publicizing Jester outfits as the ultimate Mardi Gras costumes, this next item features on the top of my costume accessories list. It certainly came in handy to me and my wife; Wacky purple sunglasses that go only to well with the craziness associated with Mardi Gras parades and parties.
Mardi Gras Scene Kit:
You can transform your living room into a scene straight out of a Mardi Gras parade. Featuring a scene where revelers can be seen throwing confetti on a passing Mardi Gras parade, it is almost life-like. My party guests were full of praises for how my living room looked after it had been fully transformed with this kit. It was the best Mardi Gras party I had ever hosted. The kit that I used includes- Mardi Gras Balcony Backdrop , Mardi Gras Brick Wall & Street Backdrop , Mardi Gras Decor & Street Light Props Add-Ons, Mardi Gras Reveler Props Add-Ons, Mardi Gras Float Props Add-Ons, Mardi Gras Confetti & Serpentine Border, Mardi Gras Beads Peel N Place.
Mardi Gras Decorating Kit:
No party
especially a Mardi Gras party can be complete without lots and lots of
balloons, crepes and streamers. You can save money and end up with a variety of
differently colored balloons, crepes and streamers with this kit that I found
online. It includes 6 Purple Balloons, 6 Yellow Balloons, 6 Jade Balloons, 1 Royal
Purple Crepe Streamer, 1 Buttercup Yellow Crepe Streamer, 1 Holiday Green Crepe
Streamer, 1 Purple Curling Ribbon, 1 Daffodil Curling Ribbon, 1 Green Curling
Ribbon. These will last you comfortably through a number of house parties.
As a proud member
of the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade for the last three years, I have a number
of Mardi Gras costume ideas to share, for both men and women. I have attended
my fair share of parties, also having thrown a few myself and I know it can get
pretty hectic. Kids can be difficult to please and so can the adults! But not
to worry, I am here to save you from all that frustration and anxiety. So let’s
begin.
Mardi Gras Costumes
Ahh those parades,
without them the Mardi Gras celebrations are no different from any other
festival. I don’t know about other parades, but the New Orleans ones' are known
for their completely authentic costumes. Half-hearted attempts are rarely seen.

What
Carnival parade could be complete without a King? A medieval King outfit is
perhaps the safest choice of costume. When talking about its importance, it can
actually be called the ‘little black dress’ of Mardi Gras costumes. A costume
that I recommend which I have worn myself includes a bright, patterned jacket
and a beautiful crown.
Why should
the men have all the fun? Mardi Gras parties would be nothing without the
crowds of colorfully costumed women. Here a couple of Mardi Gras Costume ideas for women.
Female Jester Costume:
While historically Jesters have been men, today’s times call for universal equality and this applies to costumes as well! My wife was very pleased when she bought a sexy, red jester costume on the net and I for one had no complaints. So this is the one that I am recommending. Queen Costume:
A King needs
his Queen otherwise he just looks silly. Fortunately for me, my wife did not
make me look silly. Whenever I dressed as King, she came as Queen to accompany
me. So, if you want to go for a sexy, fun Queen look, I would say go for this
outfit, easily found online.

Jester Child

Mardi Gras Costume Accessories
Considering
the times, many of you would prefer to spend not much on your Mardi Gras
attires. If that is the case, I would recommend making your own outfits and
buying the accessories to make them just as good, if not better than the custom
Mardi Gras costumes. Mardi Gras masks and hats are beautiful pieces which can
transform even the simplest of costumes.
Mardi Gras Mask:
A simple feathered mask with lots of colors is probably your best bet as it can go with just about any costume. Featuring hues of purple, green and yellow, this mask is beautiful and economical.
Mardi
Gras Hat:
A flamboyant hat can bring life to the dullest of
costumes. I found this stunning purple hat that boasts of a single green
feather. If you are a hat person, definitely take a look.

Mardi Gras Door/Wall Panel Prop:
If you are not up for changing the entire look
of your house, a simple prop can create the Mardi Gras feel without upsetting
your home décor. You can go for door or wall props such as this one, which I
found online at an amazing price. It features a plastic Panel with a
colorful Harlequin dressed up in gold, green and purple standing next to a
banner displaying the words "Mardi Gras". The Harlequin is set
against a stunning background of green, purple and gold confetti and streamers.
If this doesn’t create the party feel, I don’t know what will.
